Dato' John graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Second Class Upper Honours) from the University of Malaya in 1991 and was called to the Malaysian Bar on 21st February 1992. 

He joined the Firm as an Associate in 1992 and was made a Partner in 1997. Dato' John is the current Managing Partner and  Head of the Litigation/Dispute Resolution Department and coordinates and supervises all the litigation cases in the Litigation Department. 

In early years of practice, Dato' John was  actively involved in all types of dispute resolution.

Currently  Dato' John specialised in Civil, Commercial and Corporate Litigation.

Dato' John has conducted trials and hearing in the Magistrate Court, Sessions Court, High Court and Appeals in the Court of Appeal and Federal Court.


His area of expertise includes the following :

  • Banking and Debt Securities -Dato' John has handled numerous cases on banking inter-alia related to all types of banking facilities and securities and on numerous occasion been invited by Banks in Malaysia to give talks and seminars to their officers.

  • Insolvency -Dato' John has done numerous cases on winding up of companies and numerous cases handled by Dato' John were reported in the Law Journals e.g. Asia Commercial Finance (M) Bhd v JB Precision Molding Industries Sdn Bhd (IN Liquidation) [1996] 2 MLJ 1. This is a Federal Court decision.

  • Injunction -Dato' John has handled numerous applications of various types of injuctions including Mareva Injuction.

  • Building Contract/Construction Disputes -Dato' John has represented property developers and contractors in resolving their disputes.

  • Merger / Localisation of Foreign Company/Entity -Dato' John handled the localisation of American International Assurance Pte Ltd in Malaysia to its local name of American International Asurance (M) Berhad and also involved in advising the merger between ING Insurance Bhd with AIA Bhd.
